inhale, exhale

Right now, today, it’s early August. Logic says the weather should be in the high 70s to low 80s. Sunny skies. But the weather is anything but. It’s raining. It’s cold, something like 55 or 60 degrees. It’s cloudy and a little windy. Essentially, it’s wonderful. It literally feels like fall outside my door, and I love that. I’m ready for sweaters, jeans and my corduroy blazer. Fall, put on some speed. I’m ready for you.

I saw two movies in the last two days with Matthew: “Collateral” and “The Manchurian Candidate.” The latter of the two was rather terrifying and odd. A good story, yet odd. “Collateral” was a great story, awesome camera work, good dialogue, deep characters. It wasn’t nearly as violent as I predicted, which is a good thing.

I pretty much completed decorating my bedroom today. I picked up a few accessories, ALL of which were on sale! Thank you, Target and Gordman’s. You certainly made my Tuesday afternoon.

picnics are fun

Matthew and I dined on friend chicken, pasta salad, spinach salad, chips and salsa during a lovely picnic yesterday at Memorial Park. The weather couldn’t have been more ideal for an outdoor feast. Lounging in the shade with the breeze blowing was a perfect way to spend a Saturday evening. It was off to the Homey Inn, though, after dinner. I swear, their champagne is the best I’ve ever tried.

Here’s a photo of last night’s fun :-)

Perfect for fall, wouldn’t you say?

hello, world

Another work week has come and gone. Received two job rejection letters. That’s not always a fun experience, but it certainly shakes you around a little bit, let’s you know who’s boss. With that, my search will continue for the ideal job that capitalizes on my writing abilities and talents in media and communication, plus compensates me for what I’m worth. I know that my seven years of hard work since my freshman year in college will pay off — financially and otherwise — in the future. I just know it.

I finished “How to Be Alone” last week and started “Underworld” by Don DeLilo. It’s a dense read at 800-plus pages. But a new book is always exciting. A new adventure. I love it.

Matthew and I are planning a picnic this evening in Memorial Park. I’m so excited!

Here’s a photo from Saturday night’s game at Coors Field. Dave (my dad) and I, a few hours before the first pitch.

observation

It’s more than coincidental that “This American Life” airs Tuesday morning, the only morning I’m able to tune in to NPR post-8 a.m.

why, hello there

It appears I’ve slipped in updating my blog. My apologies. My weekend in Denver was busy beyond belief, albeit without an Internet connection. The highlight of my trip — besides seeing my family — was the Colorado Rockies game Saturday night at Coors Field. The Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-4 in a fantastic game. I managed to try almost every food sold at the field, not to mention a 16-ounce bottle of Budweiser. Yum.

We shopped Sunday, at which time I picked up some cute clothes for work and a copy of “Underworld” by Don DeLilo. I’ve never read anything by DeLilo, but Jonathan Franzen refers to him extensively in “How to be Alone,” which I’m almost finished reading. My copy of “The Twenty-Seventh City” also arrived. What to read next?
