cough, sniffle

I’m sick. I noticed my throat getting sore and my nose getting stuffy a few days ago. I woke up this morning and thought, “OK, now I’m sick.” Ick. Here’s to getting healthy.

I have a few errands to run today: sell some old books at a used book store in La Vista; pick up my check from the City Weekly; go to the bank; go to the post office; meet Jason for lunch. Plus, spend a few hours at work lining up interviews for this week.

Not bad for a Tuesday.

how many of you will read this?

The final report of the Sept. 11 Commission is coming out in paperback this summer to be sold in bookstores nationwide.
The government has hired W.W. Norton Co. Inc. to print 500,000 copies of the report to be sold in chain, independent and online bookstores. The book will be sold for $10 and is set to be published around July 26 .
The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States is hoping the release of the book will be simultaneous with publication of the report by the Government Printing Office and on the Internet, a commission spokesman said.

nasty weather

A pretty nasty thunderstorm rolled through Omaha a few hours ago. Since I work in a mobile home, there’s no basement and nowhere to go should a tornado land. Thankfully, Terry and I went to my mom’s house, just a few blocks from here. We hung out there until the storm blew over, then came back to work. Nothing like a little severe weather to break up the afternoon.

good morning to you

This past week has been stressful, to say the least. For the past six months, I’ve been working on an iMovie for my mom’s church. The iMovie needs to be done by Sunday. I ran into several snags over the past few days, when I attempted to burn the iMovie to a DVD using iDVD. After two failed attempts using friends’ Macs, I drove to Lincoln last night for one final try. Success! Steve and John were able to get my iMovie working perfectly! Thank you!

Perhaps the best part of my trip west was the fact that I got Panther, too! The new OS is speedier than its predecessor, and it’s much prettier, too. I’m excited to learn more about Panther today when I play with my PowerBook at Nu-Trend.

I think Matthew and I are going to an Omaha Royals game tonight. My first ball game of the year :-)

It has been humid here. Hot, too. Summer is certainly here.

the summer blockbuster is here

Matthew and I saw “The Day After Tomorrow” last night, courtesy of free movie passes he received last Christmas. As far as summer blockbusters go, the film certainly delivered: a love story, lots of action, great special effects and an intense story line. My only beef is that the dialogue was rather predictable and the dialogue was pretty flat. I must say, however, that the scenes of blizzards, rains, hail and tornadoes were believable. This certainly is a movie one must see on the big screen. I don’t think you’d get the same impact watching it on a 13″ Zenith.

I was absolutely freezing in the theater last night and thankful I brought my hoodie. Why do movie theaters insist on keeping their theaters so damn cold?

where’s my credit card?!?

‘Pee-wee’s Playhouse’ on DVD
LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) — All 45 episodes of the kids-and-critics fave “Pee-wee’s Playhouse,” including six “lost” installments making their home video debut, are headed for DVD this fall.
The shows will be packaged in two box sets, with a separate release for “Pee-wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special.” A collector’s set is due next year, which includes commentary and bonus materials from Paul Reubens, star and creator of the series.
“I am extremely pleased that ‘Pee-wee’s Playhouse’ will be available on DVD,” Reubens said, “The digital medium affords the shows a look that was not possible when they were originally broadcast or made available on VHS in the 1980s and ’90s.”
The show ran on CBS from 1986 to 1991, the year that Reubens was arrested for indecent exposure at a Florida porn theater, and picked up 22 Emmys. Electronic rock pioneer Todd Rundgren did the theme song and music for many of the episodes.

odd timing, wouldn’t you say?

technology is taking over my world

I’m driving in the car today, listening to a De La Soul album Jason loaned me to rip. I normally listen to my iPod in the car, so it was rare my CD player was even in use. I was curious how long one of the songs was, so I looked at the digital display, ticking away the seconds. I was confused at first, wondering how large the song was — as in megabytes. I’ve become used to determining a song’s length by its size. A computer dork am I.

P.S. I had yet another delicious tuna melt at Goldberg’s midtown location today for lunch. (Oh, yum.) I only ate half the sandwich, leaving Part II for another meal.

chicago recap

My first trip to Chicago was a success! Despite getting snarled in a 90-minute traffic jam leaving Midway airport, the rest of the weekend was great. We did lots of shopping. My favorite parts of our two-day trip were the Wicker Park neighborhood, which included Filter, a fantastic coffee house serving the best vanilla steamer I’ve ever had, and Myopic Books, a wonderful used book store. I could’ve easily spent an entire afternoon browsing their shelves. (If you’re curious, I picked up a huge copy of Willa Cather’s work, “Brain Storm” by Rick Dooling and “In the Bedroom” by Andre Dubus.)

Another favorite part was Saturday night, where we spent an hour or two at Danny’s Tavern. Let’s just say Wendy had a wonderful evening on Ketel One and cranberry juice ;-)

Here’s a few photos from my weekend. Chicago, I love you!
