home again in omaha

Hello, all. Our flight arrived shortly past 8 last night. My cousin borrowed my PowerBook this weekend and just dropped it off this morning. I’m getting caught up on blog comments, blog entries and my email. Fun, fun, fun.

I took a number of photos in Chicago this weekend, which I’ll probably post sometime tomorrow. For now, it’s time to get ready for work.

hello from chicago

Hello from the Apple Store on Michigan Avenue in Chicago! Matthew and I arrived safe and sound a few hours ago. Besides getting stuck in traffic, our trip so far is great! Next stop: Starbucks.

hello, 1998

Holy shit, this photograph is old. It was taken in the spring of 1998, my second semester at The Gateway, the student newspaper at the University of Nebraska at Omaha where I worked during the first few years of college. (At the time this photo was taken, I was news editor.) I have no idea what the hell I was thinking wearing such a short skirt. Jeez. Maybe Oprah’s right; maybe we do look better as we age.

make your ears happy

An updated list of my 2,844 songs. ( kasak, this one’s for you! )

now, THIS is weird

Why? I only met him a few days ago. He’s friends with the guy who wrote “The Hipster Handbook,” one of my favorite books. Incidentally, I interviewed Robert Lanham (the author) a few months ago. And, now, I meet his friend in an LJ community dedicated to music.

Weird.

what to do?

I’m antsy tonight. No idea why. No explanation. I watched “Clean Sweep” on TLC, then flipped through the latest issue of Interview magazine in, like, 10 minutes. I ate some leftover pasta-and-chicken, with canned peaches and a glass of juice. I tried reading more of “Bird by Bird,” but, simply, got stuck. I couldn’t focus on more than one paragraph.

I need a project. I have laundry to do, as Matthew and I are spending the weekend in Chicago. I don’t really need to pack until tomorrow, though. Just laundry. But laundry’s not a project; it’s a chore, a task.

Paint my fingernails? Maybe. My toes? Not a bad idea. That’s a quasi-project, one related to beauty and grooming and everything that is female.

Speaking of which, I’ve decided to decorate my bedroom in a feminine look: either light pink, purple or yellow walls, with floral bedding. Flowers everywhere. Not tacky flowers. Clean flowers. Gorgeous flowers. I get the feeling that the rest of my house isn’t feminine enough: browns, greens. Bring on the girly girl, I say. She’s in there somewhere. I just gotta find her.

now, there’s proof

There’s even a LiveJournal community against Dubya. Amazing.

random tasks to complete

(1) Find new bedding for bedroom.
(2) Find corresponding wall color to said new bedding for bedroom.
(3) Find artwork for living room, TV room and bedroom.
(4) Find potted house plant for plant stand I found in my basement, one that would look great in either the living room or TV room.
(5) Clean out closet of home office.
(6) Either sell old clothes on eBay or make donation to Goodwill.
(7) Select what to read after I finish Anne Lamott’s “Bird by Bird.”

more work’s on the way

I’m meeting with the folks at David Day and Associates about a free-lance project they have with Valmont Industries. Apparently, the project involves writing employee profiles for Valmont’s internal magazine, which, I’m told, is published twice a year. I’ll know more tomorrow after our meeting. Wish me luck!
