Funny, huh? I think so :-)

what a week
Can you believe it has been nearly a week since my last update? I do so apologize. This has been a crazy, crazy week. Tuesday we celebrated my cousin’s 21st birthday with drinks at two bars: the Homy Inn (my favorite) and the Interlude (a close second- or third-place pick). We had fun! I did get a little sick, which I believe was the result of bad food and not too much booze. Wednesday I still wasn’t feeling too hot, but the delicious steak dinner that evening certainly made up for that. Tonight, I’m spending the evening solo, and I’m quite enjoying it. I cleaned my house for a shindig I’m having tomorrow. I was inspired by TLC’s “Clean Sweep” and purged several garbage bags of junk I’ve been meaning to toss for months. Yeah, Wendy!
What else? This weekend, I’ve got my second cousin’s 50th wedding anniversary. On Sunday, my cousin celebrates his First Communion.
Oh! I nearly forgot: I got my hair cut Tuesday. I must say, it’s the best cut Margie has given me yet. Adorable! Very short, yes, but I’d rather call it “sassy.”
I’m now two weeks and counting until I depart for California. I can’t wait! While there we’re going to a taping of “The Ellen Degeneres Show.” Because it’ll be May, that means sweeps. And sweeps means awesome guests and (hopefully) free stuff. Yeah for free stuff!
a room with a (pretty) view
My bedroom is the last upstairs room to be decorated since moving into my house last year. It’s the one room I spend the least amount of time in awake, so it hasn’t been a priority. Until now. My bedroom is pretty bleak and boring right now. I want to add some color. Here’s a comforter set I’m leaning toward, for sale at Kohl’s. I’d paint the walls a warm gold or rosy color, depending on what the set looks like in person. The rest of my house is in earth tones: browns, yellows and greens. I think this set would flow with the rest of my home decor.
What do you think?
it’s early
I just got home from taking Matthew to the airport. He’s going to Chicago to visit his brother and two cousins this weekend. The drive through downtown was lovely. Traffic is good this early on a Saturday. Now that I’m home, I should go back to sleep. I don’t know if I can, though. I work this morning at 10 (as usual).
a new favorite photo?
In a move to introduce us to the community, my newspaper is publishing ads titled “Get to Know.” Each week, a different Leader staffer is featured, with a bio and photo. Today, our talented photographer Tony Miceli (no, he’s not the housekeeper from “Who’s the Boss?”) shot the following for my ad, which will run in the coming weeks. The concept, I’m not crazy about. But the photo? Oh, it’s a good one, if I do say so myself.
why i love ryan adams
Here’s a quote from an interview he did last month with a writer from Pitchfork:
I mean, I’ve had a pretty good run. When I play live shows, it seems like people are excited about the new stuff. I would imagine at this point that people are geared up to think, “I don’t know what the fuck this guy is going to do.” But then again, I don’t know.

ick!
During the past week, I’ve discovered three or four long-legged spiders making homes in mine. Ick. Two I found on my bathroom ceiling, two others I’ve found in my kitchen sink. I imagine their arrivals are a sign of spring. I recall finding similar spiders last fall, as the weather got cooler. Thankfully, they haven’t killed me yet. I just need to remember: “I am bigger than this spider, I am bigger than this spider.”
When that doesn’t work, I let Matthew kill ’em. He’s good at that :-)
make up your mind
Mother Nature: Either give me the occasional blemish or a few gray hairs. “Blessing” me with both is fucking with my brain. Seriously.
npa results
What a night! The Bellevue Leader staff started drinking at Old Chicago in the Haymarket shortly before 5. We stayed there until 7, at which time we walked a few blocks to the Cornhusker Hotel for the dinner and ceremony. We took home first place in general excellence in Class D, which is the largest of the four classes in Nebraska. Eric took home a few awards for sports, Tony nabbed some for photos. Jason won one, too. I came home with a first-place win for my adoption series! I was quite excited, I must say :-)

new community alert
I’m a fan of Lost Highway Records, but couldn’t locate an LJ community dealing with said record label. No more. I created my own.
