almost famous

On Friday, author David Sedaris will read from his latest book, “Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim,” at the Bookworm here in Omaha. I already own a signed copy of this book; I purchased it from Prairie Lights bookstore in Iowa City long after his book signing. However, I hope to have Sedaris sign my copy a second time.

In music news, Matthew and I will see Rufus Wainwright and Ben Folds play Kansas City in August. I’m so very excited!

not guilty x 10

When I heard the phrase “not guilty” spoken 10 separate times yesterday during live coverage of Michael Jackson’s trial, I can’t say I was surprised. Although the charges I read about sounded terrible, they didn’t link together to create a solid case against the pop star.

It seems the media treats Jackson like a freak, a weirdo. But the judicial system, I think, did its job. The prosecution didn’t have enough evidence to prove Jackson is an illegal man.

Sure, Jacko may be a little odd, but that doesn’t immediately make him a without-a-doubt criminal.

In other news: The rain has finally stopped, after about a week’s worth of wetness. Here comes the sun!

it’s been one week since you looked at me

I must be trying to set a record of the greatest time between updates. Eight days certainly comes close, wouldn’t you say?

Since come back into town from my business trip, I have been going non-stop. Not only is my full-time job keeping me busy; I’m picking up more freelance work than ever before. I’m being assigned more stories than when I worked at the Bellevue Leader. I’m certainly not complaining, merely observing. More freelance work means more exposure and more money. Gotta love that.

I saw “Cinderella Man” last night with Matthew and his sister. Despite the film being a bit too brutal for my taste (yes, I know it’s a boxing movie), I thought it was excellent. The characters are fantastic and their stories immediately draw you in. Much of the film is set during the Great Depression. Quite the coincidence, as I just started reading “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck.

I have a number of freelance projects that I absolutely must wrap up this weekend. Wish me luck.

In the spirit of the Deep Throat news, Matthew and I are watching “All the President’s Men,” which I’ve owned on DVD for years. Great movie!

tasty food

I’m out of town for work this week. And, as such, my “healthy eating plan” has gone down the crapper.

Oh, who am I kidding? I don’t even have a “healthy eating plan.”

Yesterday, my diet consisted of:

-A personal pan cheese pizza from Godfather’s, at the airport
-A Ketel One and cranberry, short
-A baseball stadium hot dog
-A bag of potato chips
-A HUGE yellow cupcake with chocolate frosting
-A half-glass of wine

Today? Who knows what I’ll eat!

I’m already hungary.

III is no. 1

The final “Star Wars” movie is, by far, the best.

“Amazing” is one of the few words I can think of to describe this film.

Matthew and I saw “Revenge of the Sith” last night. It was the perfect way to cap off the past week we spent watching the five previous films.

relaxing weekend? somewhat.

I’m in the midst of wrapping up several freelance projects, which explains the lack of updates. Thankfully, Monday has arrived and my load is much lighter.

See the new user photo up there? That’s compliments of Chris Machian. He took the photo in my back yard Friday night for the contributors page of Wedding Dresses, which I write for. In fact, I’m working on two articles for them this month.

I’ll post the full-size version later, as well as a handful of cute photos he took of Matthew and me.

No big plans today. Wrap up my Wedding Dresses article, shop for khaki pants at Oakview Mall and an afternoon BBQ with friends.

Happy Memorial Day!

getting ready for work

This is terrible.

I normally get ready for work at 7:20 each morning, ensuring I’m out the door by 8:10.

This morning, I need to be at work at 7:30. I can’t figure out what time I should begin getting ready! Bah!
