Tonight: U2

Tonight Matthew and I are braving the cold to see Kanye West and U2. I’m not the biggest U2 fan out there, but I am quite curious about what songs they’ll play.

And if Bono is as short as everyone says he is.

Bob Dylan Leaps To XM

[From Pitchfork]

The times, they are a-changin’. XM Satellite Radio announced today that Bob Dylan has signed on to become their latest DJ. Come March, the living legend will host a weekly show on XM’s Deep Tracks channel. In addition to a hand-picked playlist by the master himself, the hour-long program will feature commentary on music and other topics, interviews with special guests, and on-air replies to e-mail from XM subscribers.

“Songs and music have always inspired me,” Dylan said in a press release. “A lot of my own songs have been played on the radio, but this is the first time I’ve ever been on the other side of the mic. It’ll be as exciting for me as it is for XM.”

Dylan joins a roster of DJs that already includes Snoop Dogg and Ellen DeGeneres. We’ll just let that sink in for a second.

How much money is XM paying Dylan to do this? The answer, my friend, is bl– ah, you know the rest.

Why I Love My iPod

While listening to my iPod on shuffle at work earlier today, the following two songs played in the following order:

(1) “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” by Death Cab for Cutie.
(2) “I Will Survive” by Cake.

The first song, a pure love story, with the whole ‘Til Death Do You Part sort of vibe.

The second, as Royal Tanenbaum would say, “a kind of f#$% you to the Old Man.”

How often do you hear songs that have similar titles but such opposed approaches?

I love you, iPod.

All Together Now…

Question: What’s your favorite Christmas carol?

Mine: Today, it’s “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” by the Barenaked Ladies with Sarah McLachlan.

No More Snow

Well, that’s not entirely true. I love the snow — just not what it leaves behind; which, in this case, is a muddy, messy, sloppy goop that’s caked on my red Hyundai so very thick my automobile appears white.

And my shoes? Don’t get my started. They are filthy.

No Thank You

Is it possible for me to care any less about the Grammy award nominees announced this morning?

An Eclectic Dinner

On last night’s menu, it was Leftovers Headquarters. I ate:

(1) Two DIY tacos with shredded cheese.

(2) Mashed potatoes and gravy from The Millard Roadhouse.

(3) Frozen French fries, cooked golden brown with a few squirts of ketchup.

Now, what should I have for breakfast? Leftover birthday cake?

Two Years Later

Last Saturday Matthew and I celebrated our two-year anniversary with a fabulous dinner at V. Mertz in the Old Market, drinks at Mr. Toad and a bottle of champagne we picked up at Bag ‘N Save.
