stupid lock

I was reminded of how cold Nebraska in winter is last night. Here’s how:

When I arrived home from work last night, I pulled into my garage as usual and shut the door. I walked up to my back porch to unlock the dead bolt when my key breaks off in the lock! Shit, I thought. I was screwed. I couldn’t get back in the garage, because the door was shut and locked. I couldn’t get in the house, because I no longer had a working key to the dead bolt. So I’m standing outside, in the cold, freezing my ass off when I called my mom. She brought over a spare set of keys, along with a pair of pliers to remove the piece of key inside the lock. She was successful, so I don’t need to call a locksmith. Whew!

Needless to say, I was a little rattled last night. I waited outside for 20 minutes before deciding to approach my neighbors to the east, requesting a warm place to sit until my mom arrived. That worked out OK, as my mom arrived a short while later.

Note to self: Keep a garage key on my key ring, and get dead bolt fixed.

I’m craving yellow cake with chocolate frosting right now. That sounds so good. I brought a packet of hot chocolate with me to work today. Perhaps that’ll curb my chocolate craving until 5 p.m.

creepy real in a bad, bad way

I have to thank Ultragrrrl for this little gem.

snow day!

Six inches so far, six more inches to go by midnight. Let’s hope that’ll be the end of it.

At least I got a day off work, right?

blizzard is to blogging as drinking is to peeing

(Make sense?)

holy effing shit!

snow?

The ever elusive – yet ever recognized – “they” are saying Omaha will get slammed with anywhere between 7 and 14 inches of snow by Wednesday night. Could it be? Considering we saw a 60-plus-degree day last week, I can’t say I mind the snow that much; or that the snow won’t be expected. It will.

hooray for the hawks!

Go Hawks!

(sigh)

I cannot begin to express how absolutely addicting it is to be here, at home, in my PJs. The furnace is on. I’m wearing my new flannel PJs from my cousin. It’s quiet. And it’s after 1 p.m.!

How grand.
