While reading the Geekipedia issue from Wired magazine, I learned about Twitter, another Web-based network that lets me share what I should be doing, rather than actually doing the work.
Here’s me. Let’s become BFF Twitter friends.

“You can learn a lot more from listening than you can from talking. Find someone with whom you don’t agree in the slightest and ask them to explain themselves at length. Then take a seat, shut your mouth, and don’t argue back. It’s physically impossible to listen with your mouth open.”

A quick update: Matt’s CD release show last night was nothing less than magical. More photos and details will be posted this weekend.
For now, my favorite photo of the evening. I’m pleased to report that I pulled my left arm away just seconds before the Cobra on Matt’s shirt went into attack-mode. Yowza…

Earlier this week I was reminded why I absolutely love working on a college campus. It was a few minutes before 8 a.m. and as I walked past the football field I could clearly hear the Marching Mavericks practicing for tomorrow’s season opener against the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
My boss, Tim Kaldahl, ran down to the football field this morning — USB microphone and PowerBook G4 in tow — and captured some fantastic audio of the band practicing. It sounds wonderful and will make any college graduate even the slightest bit nostalgic for their days on campus.
Savor the 2-minute audio clip on Tim’s UNO blog, Maverickland.
And remember: Go Mavs!

Several weeks ago my mom and I were driving near Omaha’s Apple Store. She hadn’t noticed the store and I (lovingly, adoringly) pointed it out as we passed.
“Aren’t they going to color it in?” she asked.
“What? Color what in?” I replied.
“The Apple. It’s just clear.”
She referred to the translucent Apple logo displayed on the building’s exterior.
I love my mom :-)

Friday night, on a whim but with some thought behind it, I was inked a third time: a small red heart on the inside of my right arm.
My decision was fueled by more than just a few too many cocktails.
I’ve been told by friends, on more than one occasion, that I wear my heart on my sleeve.
And it’s true.
I have a tremendously difficult time hiding my emotions, be them excited, elated, upset, peeved or anything in between.
After leaving my job at Cox Communications and joining the University Relations department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha just four weeks ago, I now believe, more than ever, that I’m one of those people who absolutely must be 100 percent committed, from an emotional standpoint, to my work for me to be truly content.
Not since working as a staff writer at the Bellevue Leader newspaper have I felt so sure that I was in just the right place, doing just the right job.
And anything I write, from simple handwritten notes to 3,000-word articles, I use my right hand. And those words always, always, always come directly from my heart.
So the heart, you see, is now a constant reminder to ensure whatever I purse has my heart’s complete backing: be it jobs, freelance articles and relationships.
I’ll admit I got a bit choked up Saturday morning. After more closely examining my new tattoo, I was reminded even more that I’m in the right place in all aspects of my life: my work, my family, my writing and my boyfriend.
That little red heart with the thin black outline only confirmed what I already knew.
And if you were wondering: yes, it did hurt.
In fact, I owe Roxy for handling a/v Friday night, creating the following video clip (see below) and the photos I posted to my Flickr account.

Apparently my email server opted to act a little finicky last night/this morning. If you sent me an email in the past 24 hours, I would ask that you re-send it, to ensure your sentiments/thoughts land in my inbox, and I:
• Read it and reply to it;
• Read it and delete it;
• Delete it before reading it. (just kidding; kind of)
Until next time,
-W.

If you have HBO, you should be tuning in to the network’s newest (and most hilarious) series, “Flight of the Conchords,” every Sunday night.
Now in its fifth week, “Conchords” is like “The Office,” except it’s set in New York City … and features two musicians … who are from New Zealand … and star in incredible music videos during each 30-minute episode.
Wait. Scratch that. “Conchords” is nothing like “The Office.” But both are equally funny.

Here’s a great photo taken by the talented Chris Machian earlier this summer at a wine tasting event at the Summer Arts Festival.
Machian said the bottle of wine on the right, Little Black Dress, reminded him of me. So very true.
An aside: Not until this photo did I realize how long my hair has gotten. Yikes!
