a screamin’ deal

So I’ve been eyeing Jonathan Franzen’s “The Twenty-Seventh City” for months and decided to see if I could find a used copy on eBay.

I didn’t, but I found something just as good: a handful of Franzen’s personal essays.

“How to be Alone” retails for $14. Amazon has it for around $12. I bought a new copy…for $5 on eBay! What a find, indeed. Can’t wait for its arrival.

In the meantime, I’m half-way through “Deception Point” by Dan Brown. I also need to finish “Brain Storm” by Richard Dooling.

because everyone is doing it

Not much to say tonight, except that I feel more and more certain every day that it’s time to find a new job. What’s depressing is that I feel as though I’m running in circles. There’s no newspaper or magazine jobs to speak of, so I’m setting my eyes on public relations or, maybe, corporate communication.

Problem is, how do I convince a potential employer that I can do public relations when I have zero PR experience? Oy, vey.

i almost peed myself

Why?

Because Matthew and I saw “Anchorman” Sunday night, that’s why! A funny, funny movie. I’ll admit that the film’s content is rather sophomoric in nature, but it’s worth the near-piss-yourself experience. Tons of cameos, including Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Tim Robbins and Luke Wilson.

The erection scene is hilarious, as is the prank calls made at the TV station in San Diego. Ha! Ha!

Wendy gives the film two thumbs up, as if that means anything :-)

“Stay classy, San Diego. Now, go fuck yourselves.”

pretty big news

I really should be working on my articles for the UNO Alumni magazine and the Valmont publication, but I can’t find the motivation.

where’s summer?

Can anyone identify where the hell summer is going? How is it that the Fourth of July has come and gone? Now, we sit and wait, in the heat and humidity, for Labor Day’s arrival. At which time, summer will, unofficially, come to an end. Jeez.

Job Watch ’04
I’ve discovered a handful of jobs that I’ve applied for in the Omaha area. They’re not newspaper jobs; those are few and far between, especially when the Omaha World-Herald isn’t hiring. I’ll keep you posted if I get any calls. Think PR, managing editor, etc.

I’m spending three days this month in Denver. My sister’s flying in from L.A., too, so it’ll certainly be a family affair. I’m excited! My baby sister (OK, she’s 20 years old) sent me a California care package yesterday: little flower candles for my kitchen, two bottles of nail polish and pink stationary from IKEA. What a nice surprise! I love my sister :-)

It’s Saturday. I’m at Nu-Trend. Blah.
