Leaving On A Jet Plane {Saturday Morning}

I couldn’t be more excited about the flight I’m boarding Saturday morning. I’m Los Angeles-bound to visit my sister, Katie. I haven’t been to LA since my visit in February, a few weeks before I started my Public Affairs job with Cox Communications.

I haven’t seen my sister since June, when she was in Omaha for my grandma’s funeral.

While I love visiting California, it’s rather sad that I only see my only sister (and only sibling) three, maybe four times a year.

But my heart cried out for you, California
Oh California I’m coming home
Oh make me feel good rock’n roll band
I’m your biggest fan

— “California” by Joni Mitchell

A Slave To Fashion

While winding through the aisles of my local Target last week, I had a thought. Without noticing, I have easily become a Slave To Fashion

Maintaining a keen awareness of what’s in style from a fashion perspective can be exhausting. Each season (hell, each week), retail outlets and fashion designers alike roll out new and varied pieces. And while I’m not dropping change on new clothes on a regular basis, I am curious to see what’s out there. I find great inspiration from merely paging through the Sunday ads and moving through the stores I frequent.

I often find inspiration for other projects, as well, from fashion. For example, last season I recall designing this very blog with a brown and pink theme. The idea came to me from a skirt I saw. The color combination looked so good in the store that I tried it on my blog. Literally. And it looked fabulous.

But as with clothes, I grew weary of the Same Old Thing. As such, I changed things up a bit.

I’m sure, with fall at my doorstep, I will return to a similar color combination, as the clothes dictate the season’s feel.

Mea Culpa, Indeed

My apologies, loyal readers (should any of you still remain), for my week-long absence from this betrothed blog of mine.

Work has evaporated my creative juices this past week. I discovered fantastic ideas for posts, but later lacked the energy and brainpower to develop those posts once I returned home.

I hope to turn a new leaf and end this drought of ideas and commentary. I write to live and live to write. So it be said. So it be done.

Hooray for Perishables!

I’m pleased to report that my new refrigerator from The Home Depot has arrived and been installed.

Photos to follow soon! I’m off to the grocery store to stock up on perishables.

Webcam Reminder

A friendly reminder that my webcam occasionally captures my at-home goings-ons, assuming I’m working away in my orange office on my Macintosh or simply enjoying my house while: cleaning, eating, watching TV, reading, etc.

It’s not nearly as exciting as JenniCam (when her webcam was active, that is), but it’s a start to learning more about me.

Just Letters

The Just Letters Web-based game could force you to abandon all work projects and social commitments until further notice.

You have been warned.

Read This Book

Earlier this week I finished reading The Tender Bar by J.R. Moehringer.

It’s a beautifully written memoir of a young boy who learned how to become a man (in more ways than one) inside the dark, smoky walls of a bar.

The book had me laughing one minute, crying the next.

If you’re looking for words and a story that satisfy, The Tender Bar is for you.

Blogs Of Note?

I’m always hungry for new writing. Can anyone recommend any good blogs?

Shoe Love Is True Love

Say hello to my lovely new Franco Sarto sandals, discovered today over my lunch hour — and on sale — at Von Maur.

How can a pair of strappy sandals make my heart go aflutter? It’s probably best not to ask questions but just go with the feeling.

Jenny’s Coming To Omaha

This just in: Jenny Lewis is Omaha-bound for an Oct. 1 show.

This means I now have less than two months to select the ideal outfit to wear to this One (Amazing) Woman Show.

Can’t wait to see (and hear) you, Jenny.
