Random Thoughts On This Sunday

(1) When the weather gets as warm as it has been, I tend to get a wee bit giddy for spring. I can’t wait for little shirts and skirts, sandals and driving with the windows down and the music dancing through the breeze. And how about a tan?

(2) After attending my friend’s baby shower this afternoon, I have confirmed the fact that I am so not ready to procreate. Just shopping in the baby aisle at Target threw me for a loop. I hadn’t felt so out place in months.

(3) The whole trend of women’s shirts with hoods is totally lost on me. Hoods belong on hooded sweatshirts and coats. Putting them on tunics and the like doesn’t serve a purpose, since, you see, the woman never actually wears the hood. And if she does, she’s only doing it to mimic that woman who sings for the Black Eyed Peas.

(4) Note to self: The next time you’re buying a “personal item” at the grocery store, request a paper sack — not a clear plastic bag. It’s bad enough lugging around the blue box of maxi pads when, in all honesty, I don’t need any other items and, therefore, don’t have anything to conceal the unmistakable package. But then having that plastic package swinging inside the bag — clear for anyone who looks my way — is just the same. Next time I buy them, I should prop them on my shoulder as if I’m lugging a 2-by-4 at a construction site.

(5) I accidentally watched a few moments of “Road Trip” this afternoon on TBS. Did anyone’s experience at college actually mirror those of our lead “actors?”

(6) Being at a bar at 1 a.m. on a Sunday morning with those you care for is the absolute best.

(7) Being at home at 3 a.m. on a Sunday morning hung over with a pounding headache is the absolute worst.

(8) I’m seeing three shows this week: Ben Folds (Tuesday), the Omaha Press Club Show (Friday) and Jenny Lewis (Saturday).

(9) I’m toying with the idea of signing up for an hour of perpetual adoration at my church. I feel like I need some spiritual nourishment.

(10) I’m still going gaga that Omaha is getting an Apple Store sometime this year.

(11) I’m quite excited for the new album by Rhett Miller.

(12) “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder is one of my top songs of all time, as is “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.”

(13) Sometimes hearing the names of your body parts spoken aloud can be so very weird — and it really shouldn’t be.

I Just Soiled Myself

In other exciting Apple retail news, the first store in Nebraska, located in Omaha, is going to open later in 2006. Omaha, the 12th largest metro area in the country without an Apple store, is only a beginning. The Omaha store will be 130 miles from the Jordan Creek store in Iowa and 183 miles from the Country Club Plaza store in Missouri. The site for the Omaha store is the new Village Pointe mall on the city’s far west side.

Just Say It

Have you heard about this “program” where people share their deepest secrets via anonymous postcards to a stranger in Maryland? I find it absolutely fascinating.

In The Beginning

Another take on how it all started…

Oy.

Or, “D’oh!”

You Still Got Yours?

Did you own a Cabbage Patch Kid?

I did.

Well, OK. I still do own my Cabbage Patch Kids. She’s a bald premature baby named Isadorah Blanch.

Anyway, the point, the point…

The point: There’s this adorable little boy sitting with his mom next to me who looks exactly like a Cabbage Patch Kid. You know, with the cute nose and round face.

If only I still had my camera phone, I could snap a photo.

But that would be bad. I can’t imagine his mother would like a stranger taking her son’s photo.

Such Small Joy

For a mere 99 cents, I can purchase a delicious chocolate chip cookie from Whole Foods. It comes in its own, small, branded bag that fits perfectly inside my handbag and travels well with me back to work.

And most days when I buy one, I’m feeling so good I let the cashier keep the penny.

I know. I’m so very considerate.

An aside about Whole Foods: This morning at work, one of my co-workers referred to Whole Foods as “Whole Paycheck,” because the goods here are so dang expensive.

And I thought those who go organic do so on the cheap.

Doesn’t matter, though. I still Whole Foods.

Wanted: Used Computers

If you’re in the Omaha area and have a working, used computer you’d like to donate, consider giving it to the Cox Connects Kids program.

I manage the program as part of my new duties at Cox. Cox distributes the donated computers to needy families in the metro area. Cox, in conjunction with South High School, also hosts a one-time “Computer 101” class for recipients.

Summer Winds?

This makes me tingly all over…

Serious Blog Withdrawal

So since starting my new job, the only time I’m finding to update this lovely blog is from my PowerBook at Whole Foods on my lunch hour. Several meetings in the evening have kept me away from my beloved PowerBook, and the ability to update.

But, do not fret, friends. I’ll provide more details of my wonderful position at Cox this weekend.

Promise.

Live well.
